‘Terra Parallela’ is the result of an artistic residency in the city of Florence, where I worked with local students on the concepts of tradition and innovation, past and present. Together we tried to understand what they mean to us. Tradition and innovation are inherent elements of culture, therefore, we explored movement based on traditional customs and habits experienced by the dancers. We also tried to understand what changes have occurred in our daily lives, from innovation and technological advancement. It is between innovations and traditions that the human being places himself in the world and writes his history. Tradition is an “old innovation”, preserved by the culture of a people, which exists at a specific time and place.
