Inspired by the traditional tale “Sleeping Beauty,” ‘Maléfica’ (Maleficent) tells the other side of the story we know. Maleficent is a charming and powerful fairy living in a magical valley bordering a reign of human beings. As a child, she meets Stefan, a peasant from the neighboring kingdom, whom she falls in love with. Stefan’s ambition and his desire to become king lead him, however, to betray the young fairy making her a bitter person. When she hears that Stefan is going to baptize Aurora, his newborn daughter, Maleficent decides to avenge herself and throws a curse on the baby.
